Stress Management
Everyone is familiar with the term ‘Stress’. Stress occurs when a person is highly worried about personal problems or financial problems. Stress induces harmful body and mind disorders. Some of these disorders are dizziness, anxiety, sleeplessness and tension. Stress also affects the nervous system, cardiovascular system and the immune system. It also causes some habitual addictions like smoking, drinking etc. Stress management is extremely essential because stress always finds out new ways of causing anxiety and health disorders. Most people tend to ignore the causes of stress and are unable to fight it. But the causes of stress are very much manageable and avoidable.
It is extremely important to find out the cause of stress for only when can it be prevented. The human body has a tendency to react to stress both internally as well as externally. In most of these situations, we do not realize that we are under stress. Another reason for this is when the stress is there for a long time that we get used to it and don’t realize it. The body keeps on telling us by giving symptoms like dizziness, body aches and palpitation. It is imperative that we pay utmost attention to these symptoms because they can have long lasting effects.
Stress has a direct relation with a primitive system of the body concerning the fight or flight system. This system gives the body strength to fight disorders or else flee them. Whenever such a situation occurs, there is increase in the blood pressure and heart beat rate. It is also accompanied by faster breathing, increase in the blood flow to the brain and increase in the mental alertness. Stress is caused by something which requires the body to adjust to changes in the environment. These changes are brought about by physical, mental and emotional responses. Every human being has his own ways to adapt to changes and therefore the reasons for stress vary from person to person. Stress is caused by both internal and external causes.
Internal Causes
• Pattern of lifestyle which includes hectic schedule, sleeplessness, dietary problems and drugs like caffeine
• Personality characteristics which are very stressful
• Negative thinking, pessimism, criticizing of self, over analyzing
• Mindset which includes exaggeration, unrealistic goals, firm thinking, inflexibility, over sensitive
External Causes
• Physical factors which include space, heat, brightness and noise
• Social factors which include aggressive nature or rude behavior
• Turning events in life like the death of a close person or a new born baby
• Daily problems like breakdowns, commotion etc.
